OSOMS President's Update - October 2016

Dear OSOMS Members:

Our AAOMS Annual Session has ended and our delegates and alternate delegates worked on some challenging issues. It was decided to ramp up the informational campaign.  I guess their attitude was “go big or go home.”  The enhanced efforts of a more aggressive informational campaign will result in a $350.00 assessment each of the next three years. There was important legislation related to Life Fellows and Members. They will pay 50% of membership dues, annual meeting registrations and assessments, shall be required to hold membership in their component oral and maxillofacial surgery society and shall receive the Journal of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery only by personal paid subscription at a rate of 50% the member price.

Congratulations to Dave Morrison who was voted as our new District IV Trustee. Paul Lambert came up just short in his bid for Vice President, but Tom Indresano, formerly from our area, was elected. Please feel free to discuss these or other issues with our delegates and alternate delegates.

We have been working with the ODA attorney, Nathan DeLong and Executive Director, Dave Owsiany, to resolve the apparent overreach by the Pharmacy Board in calling reconstitution of common drugs we administer “compounded drugs” which are subject to stringent and unnecessary standards. I wish to thank Greg Ness for his insights on these matters.  I was encouraged by my recent conversation with Nathan DeLong that we are making positive steps toward a reasonable solution.  Doug Wallace and Bert Job are working with the Pharmacy Board on these issues.  Click here to review the Pharmacy Board Regulations.  Please forward comments to Doug and/or Bert.
