Dr. Betts graduated summa cum laude with a Science degree from the University of Michigan followed by his graduation from the University of Michigan School of Dentistry.  He completed his residency in Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery at the University of Michigan Medical Center, and simultaneously earned his  Masters of Science degree in Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery.

 

Dr. Betts entered the academic community first serving as the Assistant Professor of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery at the University of Pennsylvania, then in New Jersey as an Associate Professor Chairman of the Department of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery.  In 1999 Dr. Betts returned to Michigan and accepted a position  at the University of Michigan as Associate Professor/Chair of the Department of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery/Hospital Dentistry. 

 

Prior to entering private practice in 2002,  Dr. Betts served as the chair of Hospital Dentistry in the University of Michigan Health System.  He currently has practices in Plymouth, Ypsilanti and Chelsea and Ann Arbor, Michigan

The 2012 meeting will begin on Friday evening, July 15th, with a 7PM Executive Council meeting followed with
a social from 9 pm to 11 pm.  Scientific sessions start at 8 am on Saturday and 8:30 on Sunday.  There will be a membership luncheon on Saturday.
 

Six hours of continuing education will be given for this course.  OSOMS is again applying for joint
sponsorship for this meeting from AAOMS.

One of the most challenging aspects of OMFS practice is the safe management of general anesthesia for pediatric
Patients requiring oral surgery in the office setting.  Dr. Ganzberg will provide attendees with a complete overview
of Office Based Pediatric Anesthesia for the OMFS from his experience anesthetizing over 10,000 young children
as well as teaching OMFS residents out-patient anesthesia for over 15 years at OSU.    His review will include
information on pediatric office anesthesia urgencies and emergencies to increase understanding why we say
“Children Are Not Just Little Adults.”
